The theme for this year’s WORLD RADIO DAY is Radio In Times of Emergency and Disaster
WORLD RADIO DAY 2016, in collaboration with RADIOPHORIA, is looking for 30” radio scripts that raise awareness of the significant role radio plays outside of entertainment. In moments of need, radio can help to save lives.
How does #radiosaveslives?
Information and communication is urgently needed during any humanitarian crises, from natural disasters to armed conflicts, and can be life-saving to those affected.
Radio is the primary emergency broadcast medium because of its independence and simplicity: it does not rely on electricity; it does not require any degree of technological know-how; it is unaffected by destruction to physical structures; it is not subject to any sort of information shut-down or censorship. The air waves are less susceptible to control or manipulation or damage.
It is important to celebrate and honour radio outside of its role as an entertainer.
The winning script will be produced by BKP MEDIA, and aired on February 13, 2016 in the region. The spot will also be included as part of the official WORLD RADIO DAY 2016 material and available on the website.
There are no restrictions to tonality.
In its first edition, RADIOPHORIA is honoured to be working with UNESCO’s World Radio Day 2016 to promote and celebrate the vital role of radio in times of crisis.
All those wishing to take part in this exciting opportunity are requested to write and submit a radio script based around UNESCOs theme this year: the importance of Radio in Times of Emergency & Disaster.
The winner will be produced free of charge by BKP and aired across the Middle East on World Radio Day, 13th February 2016.
